The hometown advantage
Most window companies in Howard County are selling you a window made in Ohio, Texas, or overseas, marked up through two or three middlemen. Ours are manufactured at the Vytex factory on Washington Boulevard in Laurel — for a lot of Howard County, that’s a 15–20 minute drive. Order supply-only and you can skip delivery charges entirely and pick your windows up at the factory for free. Plenty of Columbia and Elkridge customers do exactly that with a pickup truck and a Saturday morning.
It also means short lead times and no cross-country freight damage. Windows go from the production line to your house in one short hop.
What Howard County homes actually need
Columbia’s original villages are hitting window age — again. A huge share of Columbia housing went up between 1967 and the early 1980s: Wilde Lake, Harper’s Choice, Oakland Mills, Long Reach, Owen Brown. Most of those homes have been through one round of replacement windows already — often builder-grade vinyl from the 1990s or early 2000s that’s now fogging up and binding. Ellicott City runs older and more particular. Between the historic district and the big 1980s–90s colonials off Route 40 and 108, window projects here range from “match the look of a 120-year-old house” to “reglaze a whole two-story foyer.” Grid patterns, exterior colors and custom sizing matter — all of which you can see priced live in the configurator before talking to anyone.
Villages and HOAs. Columbia’s villages have architectural guidelines, and most exterior changes — including window color changes — need a Resident Architectural Committee sign-off. White-for-white replacements are usually routine; going black or bronze on the exterior may need approval first. Worth the five-minute check with your village office before you order.
