Our headquarters sits on River Road in Potomac — which means Montgomery County isn’t a service area we drive out to, it’s home. The windows themselves are manufactured by Vytex in Laurel, a short hop away, so orders go from the production line to your house without cross-country freight or the damage and delays that come with it. What Montgomery County homes actually need
The postwar close-in neighborhoods are prime for replacement. Silver Spring, Wheaton, Kensington and the older parts of Bethesda are full of 1940s–60s capes, ramblers and colonials — many still on original single-pane windows with aluminum storms, or first-generation replacements that are decades past their prime. These homes see the most dramatic before-and-after: drafty, painted-shut windows swapped for tilt-in units with modern Low-E glass. The first winter, you notice.
The 1970s–80s subdivisions are on their second round. Olney, Gaithersburg, Germantown and Montgomery Village went up in a building wave whose original builder windows are long gone — and the vinyl that replaced them in the 1990s is now fogging between the panes. That fog means the seal has failed and the insulating gas is gone. Newer Clarksburg and North Potomac homes aren’t there yet — mostly. Homes built around 2000 are just starting to show scattered seal failures. You rarely need a whole house; you need a handful of windows that match the other twenty. Historic districts, HOAs and permits
Montgomery County has more architectural review than most. The Chevy Chase villages, historic Kensington, and parts of Takoma Park have historic-district guidelines that can govern window style, grid pattern and exterior color — white-for-white swaps are usually routine, but changing to black or bronze on the exterior may need approval first. Many HOAs in Potomac, North Bethesda and the newer subdivisions have their own architectural committees, too. Worth a five-minute check before you order; we’ll happily hold an order review until your approval comes through.
On permits: most of the county is handled by Montgomery County’s Department of Permitting Services, but several municipalities — Rockville, Gaithersburg and Takoma Park — run their own permitting separately. Like-for-like window replacement generally doesn’t require a permit; enlarging an opening does. When we install, we handle the permitting that applies to your job.
